HEALTH CARE CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD
Introduction
ICG's Health Care Capacity Development Advisory Board was formed in early 2008 to address the need for comprehensive, expert advice on how to create, build-out, and improve health care teaching and research capacity both in the US and internationally. We will add new members and roll out additional capabilities throughout 2008.
Member Background
Advisory Board members have studied, taught, researched, and served as residents at Columbia University, Harvard University, New York University, the Sorbonne, the University of Melbourne, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UC Los Angeles.
Practice Area Advisory Board members can draw on a highly diversified set of experiences, including research and teaching, health care policy analysis, financial planning in pharmaceutical development, health care insurance controlling, and clinical research services.

Member Biographies
Mr. Arnold Chazal
Mr. Chazal serves as a partner with Kieris Solutions, a health care research-focused consulting firm, and the founder of VueMed. He previously consulted for the SCA/LAB Group. He has been involved with numerous financial services institutions, insurance companies, and academic entities such as a state university system. Mr. Chazal obtained a B.A. in European Business Law from the University of Paris-Nanterre and graduated with a M.A. in Business Law from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. In addition, he completed graduate studies at the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
Mr. Seong Chen
Mr. Chen serves as a Financial Manager with Roche Diagnostics in Switzerland after working for Roche Molecular Systems in the San Francisco Bay Area. Previously, he served as a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, worked as a Senior Field Engineer with Schlumberger, and held an internship with Lehman Brothers. Mr. Chen received a B.Engr. with first class honors from the University of Melbourne in Australia. He also holds a MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley.
Mr. Frank Lönnies
Mr. Lönnies works as a Controller for the Central Krankenversicherung. His professional experience is in the health care insurance industry as a strategic controller. Previously, he worked for MSR Consulting. Mr. Lönnies holds a M.A. in Economics from Claremont Graduate University in Los Angeles with a concentration in statistics, and a M.A. in Economics from the Universität Münster. He also studied economics at Essen and Bonn Universities.
Ms. Lana Makhanik
Ms. Makhanik is a founding partner with Kieris Solutions and a co-founder of VueMed. Prior to working with Kieris, she consulted for the LAB/SCA Group where she focused on process and organizational design. Ms. Makhanik graduated with a joint B.A./B.S. in Cognitive Studies and Japanese Studies from Wellesley College.
Prof. Stuart Slavin
Prof. Stuart Slavin serves as the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Professor of Pediatrics at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Previously he served as Vice Chairman for Education in the Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles. While at UCLA, Dr. Slavin held leadership roles in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education levels. He was a co-founder of UCLA's innovative and influential Doctoring curriculum. Current areas of interest include the use of pattern recognition in diagnostic reasoning as an organizing theme for curricular change, innovative approaches to case-based teaching, inter-professional health education, and provider-patient communication. Prof. Slavin received his M.D. from Saint Louis University and his M.Ed. from the University of Southern California.
Prof. Michael Wilkes
Prof. Wilkes serves as Vice Dean of the School of Medicine and Director of the Global Health Program at UC Davis. His prior experiences include service as a faculty member at UCLA and Columbia University, as well as multiple leadership roles as director, chair, and dean. He has commented extensively on medical issues in the media, including as medical consultant and producer for ABC, CBS, and NBC, as columnist for the New York and L.A. time, and as commentator for NPR. In addition, he has published more than 60 journal articles. Prof. Wilkes obtained a B.A. from Vassar College, a M.P.H from Columbia University, a Ph.D. from the UCLA School Of Public Health, and a M.D. from the University of Connecticut. He completed residencies at the New York University Medical Center, Columbia University and New York City, and UCLA's Department of Internal Medicine.
